Uvular Stop

[component-1] Tongue
[component-2] Uvular

The Uvular Stop prevents aspiration through the mouth. The back of the tongue is pressed against the uvula for the duration of the sound blocking air to the mouth. To block air to the nose see the Nasopharyngeal Stop which also uses the uvula.

Place of Articulation

The following diagram shows where the Uvular Stop is made in the mouth.
