Making a 16-Beat Pattern

In this lesson you will learn how to make a 16-beat pattern using three sounds including the classic handclap sound.

Handclaps

This is the symbol for a handclap:

And when a handclap is used in a beat pattern is has a square icon.

The 16-Beat Pattern

A 16-beat pattern has 16 sounds in a row.

Listen to this basic 16-beat pattern. It has two bars (or measures) of 16-beats:

The pattern uses the Classic Kick and Closed Hi-hat you learned in Lesson 1 and the Classic Handclap you learned in this lesson.

By using the Classic Handclap, the beatboxer is able to take in a breath and make a sound at the same time. It is possible to keep beatboxing this pattern without ever running out of breath.
