The Advanced Sound Search has drop-down parametric search boxes at the top of the page. This means you can search for all sounds that, for example, contain a specific Plosive. The drop down boxes work in tandem, so you can search, for example, for all Kick Drums that contain a Bilabial Plosive and are Voiced Low.
Sounds are individual vocal sounds. They can be single sounds, for example ‘b’, or a sequence of single sounds which make more complex sounds, for example the word ‘hello’. Each Sound is shown in a Sound Row with the timbre, kit, level, iconophonics, and an audio play button.
The first icon in the Sound Row is the timbre. Clicking on this icon will take you to that Sound including a video and more information.
Sounds are also grouped into Kits. Kits are groups sounds which are all made in a similar way, for example, not breathing out. Kits are a quick way of finding similar sounds. The second icon in the Sound Row shows which kit the sounds belongs to. Clicking on this icon will take you to all sounds in the same Kit.
Sounds are also grouped into Levels; Easy, Medium, or Hard. This groups sounds on how difficult they are to make. The third icon in the Sound Row shows the difficulty level of the sound. Clicking on this icon will take you to all sounds (and patterns) with the same difficulty level.
The white icons in the sound row are the iconophonics. These describe how the sound is physically made in the sound. Clicking on an iconophonic will take you to more information about the iconophonic.
The last icon in the Sound Row is the play button which lets you hear an audio preview of the sound.
